Hiking up Enchanted Rock

Enchanted Rock view from our Cabin
We drove up to Fredericksburg from Houston via Hwy 71 to south of Austin and 290 on to town on Friday morning in about 4 1/2 hours. We ate before picking up our keys from Absolute Charm rentals and drove 15 minutes out 965 to the turn off to our cabin which takes another ten minutes or so out into the countryside. Enchanted rock was in view from the cabin, which was very nice. Once we unpacked and got ready we drove back to 965 and on out to Enchanted Rock by 4:15 and began our .7 mile hike up the rock. It was a climb, but worth it as we enjoyed the view, meeting others doing the same including several from other countries including France. We hiked down a different path around before getting back to the main trail. We were both pretty tired and used muscles uncommon to normality! Then we went into Fredericksburg for a meal at Rathskeller's before returning and retiring early, worn out. Saturday started with breakfast at the Sunset Grille before shopping the stores and then checking out a small Wine and Food fest. Rest at the cabin, then later that evening we ate at Auslander Restaurant. Each night we drove back to the cabin at night we encountered cows blocking our road, but there were also deer and rabbits, and some say boar and turkey, too. During the night a front made it into the area and there was some hard rain and cooler air arriving. It had been warmer than we had experienced before on trips with a temperature of 90 that dropped to 66 on Sunday morning. We ate our final brunch meal at the Herb Garden restaurant and departed for Houston via a more southern longer route via I-10 by way of Hwy 67, and actually made about the same time while avoiding some of the rain that hadn't made it south that far and northerly route construction. It was a good trip as we celebrated our 32nd Anniversary a little ahead of time. Pictures. VIDEO
