People are beginning to rebel

Some thoughts.
I don't think the lab in Wuhan where this virus was engineered meant for it to escape. Just like some other countries, they were attempting to produce a weapon to make available if they thought it would be needed, but these type weapons need a vaccine, too. So China was not prepared when the virus escaped and rapidly spread as they attempted to contain it with lock downs and social cancellation of events, which was quite effective, but did not fully contain the spread. They did attempt to deny the virus was spreading and disrupting things, and in my opinion they did so because they would otherwise eventually have to admit that a potential weapon had escaped.

If this COVID-19 virus had been fully developed and China been able to immunize their citizens prior to its release this would have been a different story altogether. Not that they would do so unless threatened. China would immediately have risen to #1 status in the world economy. Beyond that it is unimaginable the effect it would have had on the world under attack and how China would have been perceived as an unaffected nation and potential source of the virus. It is a good thing this didn't happen. They will incur enough blame when this is all over.

Now every nation is trying to recover without making things worse. It is a cautious procedure since there are so many unknowns about who has it, who had it and were asymptomatic, who had it but recovered and whether they can get it again, and what will happen in the fall if things start to normalize and we let our guard down. Even if there is a vaccine there are a ton of questions about it. COVID-19 may be something we have to live with just like the cold virus for a long time.

As the world population increases there will be more likelihood of viral events. This one seems to attack the diseased, weakened, and elderly who have compromised immune systems as though it is a way to check the size of our world population in some small way. It is removing the least productive among us. Nature does have a way of limiting population, and mankind with wars and disease has also kept population down, too. We currently have enough food and water to support and supply the need but this may not always be the case. Eventually the need will outweigh the supply unless our population levels off.

But lest we despair and give up hope it is our way to survive and meet the goal of eternal life passed on through families. In our past it has been far worse. Out future depends on us seeing that we not only overcome adversity, we grow from it and adapt to be better than we were. That is life and it is what we should love about it knowing our descendants will actually have better lives than we have. And what we have is not so bad, said every generation before. You find the good when you look for it!

CV-19 Update

From what I understand we are now at the height of the spread of the COVID-19 virus as unsuspecting people carry it around. One thing I had not considered is how ones shoes pick up and carry the virus into your car and home, and then you touch them when you take them off. This is probably worse than grocery bags and food containers and we don't take the same care with shoes.

As I've said before it seems likely we'll be dealing with the virus until a vaccine becomes available, and even then there may be mutations to deal with. China is still dealing with hot spots and dissent by people upset at the restrictions imposed there, too.  This won't be over any time soon.

It has been interesting living at home, retired for the most part, but having my wife working from home in the dining room. I can't get into all the 'fun' we have recently had with events other than to say things seem to happen to my wife more often lately. Yesterday as she open the back door screen a bird flew in and that took a while before it finally flew out as it hid and reappeared later while she was gone for a walk. The fun never stops here. We even went to pick up groceries last week, a week early! Sorry, it is next Tuesday for your order! No problem.

Speaking of grocery pick up, Walmart is pretty good at timely grocery pick up scheduling. They use the Walmart Grocery app and your data service to know you arrive. Unfortunately my data stopped working unexpectedly and it took way longer than the first time to pick up my last order. And our local HEB had a worker test positive and the store had to do a thorough disinfection before resuming. Our local Kroger doesn't seem to be so busy, but get a slot for grocery pick up can be unpredictable. I think some of the problem is with workers testing positive in some stores or maybe quitting. They are surely overworked.

Anyway, take care and use caution. The best thing we having going for us is common sense.
